MELBOURNE -- A semester of art classes and workshops at the Renee Foosaner Education Center of Florida Tech will start the week of Aug. 19.
Sara Petrosky, curator of education for the Renee Foosaner Education Center, said that registration is now open for the courses, and those who wish to attend must register at least 48 hours in advance of the start of the class.
"I think most people are really shocked by how three hours of uninterrupted creative time really refreshes the soul," she said. "So, aside from developing artistic skills and techniques, I believe Foosaner art classes positively benefit the mind and spirit."
Classes are held Monday through Friday, throughout the day and evening.
A variety of classes are also available, including sculpture, pottery, painting and drawing.
Ms. Petrosky said their will also be new courses for teenagers and children offered this year, such as beading, cartooning and an art-inspired story time.
"Since our audience is a diverse mix of university students, faculty, staff and locals, it is an easy way to meet new friends," she said. "For children, it's been proven that art education increases self-confidence and problem solving skills, which will help improve academics and make for a happier kid."
Pre-registration is required for all classes and workshops. Schedules, details and prices can be found on the Foosaner Art Museum's website under "classes."
Students may sign up for classes either online or by calling the Education Center at (321) 674-8923.
