The summer has flown by and it will soon be time for more than 72,000 BPS students to return to school.
Students in grades 1-12 will begin on Aug. 14; kindergarten students report on Aug. 19; and elementary VPK and Head Start students report on Aug. 21.
Registration dates and times for the 2013-14 school year are as follows:
Elementary Schools: Monday, Aug. 12 (at the school), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Middle Schools: Friday, Aug. 9 and Monday, Aug. 12, (at the school), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
High Schools: Friday, Aug. 9 and Monday, Aug. 12 (at the school), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
*Schools are to schedule one evening registration. Parents should call the school for the date and time.
As a reminder, in order to register children for school, all BPS parents/students must provide two proofs of residence at registration at each Brevard Public School to verify the actual address at which the student is living. Proof of residence may include the following with one from each tier:
Current drivers license (F. S. 322.19 (2) requires that you update your address information on your driver's license within 10 days of moving)
Current Homestead Exemption Card or purchase contract (with expected closing date within 90 days of school) or warranty deed
Lease/rental agreement (with parent/guardian name as the renter)
Current utilities statement (within the last 30-45 days)
Florida Voter Registration Card
Florida Vehicle Registration or title
A utility hook up or work order dated within 60 days
Medical or health card with address listed
Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill
Current automobile insurance policy or bill
A letter from a homeless shelter, transitional service provider, or a half-way house verifying they receive mail.
For families who may be sharing housing (students in transition), there is a new Shared Tenancy Affidavit that must be completed in order for the student to enroll/register in school.
For students who may be living temporarily with another family, the In Loco Parentis form has been updated to reflect a maximum of 30 days. The In Loco Parentis form may not be used in lieu of the district's Out of Area request process or to gain admittance into a school outside the student's zoned school.
Please be reminded: students must attend the school to which they are zoned, based on the student's home address, unless the student is on an approved Out of Area assignment to another school or the student has been accepted to and is participating in a choice program or school.
The students of parents or guardians, who falsify address information, will be withdrawn and required to enroll in the zoned school. The student may forfeit any future opportunity to attend a school other than his/her zoned school.
Brevard Public Schools reserves the right to verify address information at any point during the school year.
If you have any questions related to student registration, please contact your child's school.
