Softball academy planned
Daytona State College will host two softball academies from Aug. 7 to 9.
Falcon Middle School softball academy, students ages 11-14, covers all aspects of the fast-pitch game, including speed and agility. Skill sessions are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 to 2 p.m., with a live game at the end of the day. Cost is $175.
Little Falcon Summer Academy for ages 7-10 covers all aspects of the fast-pitch game, including speed and agility. The skill sessions are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. with pool time from 3 to 4 p.m. Cost is $65.
Campers need to bring their own lunch.

Coed softball league to begin
The City of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is offering its 21st annual Adult Coed Softball League.
The season will run from Aug. 19 to about Nov. 14. Participants must be 18 years of age. The league will be divided up into two or three divisions based on the number of teams and the diverse levels of play.
Each team will play a minimum of 16 games. Games are played Monday through Thursday at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, off of North U.S. 1. Game softballs and team awards will be provided.

Girls softball camp offered
DeLand High School Bulldog Fast-pitch Manager Jenn Mitchell is offering a softball skills camp to girls ages 7-14.
Camp will be 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Aug. 5, to Friday Aug. 9, at the DeLand High School softball field. The cost is $65 per participant (plus $3 non-resident fee).
Participants may register at the Parks and Recreation office or on site the first day of camp.

Softball League planned
DeLand Parks & Recreation will be offering a Summer Recreational Adult Softball League at DeLand's Sperling Sports Complex from Aug. 12 through October.
Church, Coed, Women's, Men's and Open division's will be offered with Church playing Monday nights, men's/women's playing Tuesday nights, coed playing Wednesday nights and open playing Thursday nights.
The league is open to anyone 18 years of age or older.
All divisions will play an eight game season.
A captain's meeting will be Monday, Aug. 5, at Sperling Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m.

Florida's Herman, Smith to Participate in USTA-ITF Wheelchair Tennis Camp
Thirty-two young wheelchair athletes will participate in the 2013 USTA-ITF International Junior Wheelchair Tennis Camp in Mission Viejo, Calif., through Aug. 2.
The camp will take place at Marguerite Tennis Pavilion and is for youth ages 12-18, who live with a permanent disabling condition and use a wheelchair when playing sports including tennis.
Florida participants in the camp will be U.S. Athletes Chris Herman of Gulfport) and Auburn Smith of Port Orange.
This year's camp will include players from 10 states and six countries. The camp is geared towards fun and camaraderie, while developing tennis skills in these young athletes.
