TREASURE COAST - Will Weatherford, Speaker of Florida House of Representatives, has designated Representative Larry Lee, Jr. of District 84, along with Representatives Gayle Harrell, MaryLynn Magar, and Debbie Mayfield, to serve as a liaison to the newly-formed Florida Senate panel led by Senator Joe Negron of Stuart.
"I am pleased that House Speaker Will Weatherford has appointed me to serve as a liaison to the Senate Select Committee on the Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin," said Representative Lee. "Over the past two months I have organized a group of scientists, researchers, environmentalist, elected officials, agricultural leaders and concerned citizens to help better understand the various challenges facing our Indian River Lagoon and waterways."
The committee is tasked with studying the policies, spending and other governmental activities affecting the lagoon and lake basin. There will be multiple meetings held with stakeholders open to the public, followed with a report of recommendations of changes in policy, if any, to the Legislature and Congress to be submitted by Nov. 4.
The first meeting is scheduled for Aug. 22, from 1-9 p.m. at the Charles and Rae Kane Center, 900 S.E. Salerno Road, Stuart.
"Local residents can be assured that I am committed to protecting our Indian River Lagoon," Representative Lee said.
