Learn about fishing

A Fishing 101 Workshop with Dan Smith will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, in the Pine Pavilion at Tomoka State Park, 2099 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach.

Mr. Smith will go over basic fishing skills, knot tying, casting, proper equipment use and fish identification.

Participants should bring their own equipment. There also is a camp store to purchase any forgotten items.

Regular park entrance fees apply.

Baseball tryouts slated

The Daytona Beach Raptors will conduct tryouts for the 10 and under travel baseball team at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Bethune Point Baseball Fields, 101 E. Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach.

EnhanceFitness for older adults now available at Volusia Flagler Family YMCAs

The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is offering a low-cost, evidence-based group exercise program called EnhanceFitness.

The program helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized and empowered to sustain independent lives.

This 16-week program works with participants to improve muscle strength, range of motion and joint health using light hand weights, stretching and other equipment. The program is free to Y members and $25 for non-members.

EnhanceFitness is offered the following days and times at the following neighborhood Ys.

DeLand Family YMCA: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Four Townes Family YMCA: 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Ormond Beach Family YMCA: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Port Orange Family YMCA: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Southeast Volusia Family YMCA: 9:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

YMCA and city host open house at aquatic center

The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA and the city of Daytona Beach will host an open house at the Midtown Cultural and Educational Center/Cypress Aquatic Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at 925 George Engram Blvd.

The YMCA wants to inform residents of its programs and get input for new ones.

There are three classes now, targeted at seniors:

Mondays and Wednesdays -- 9-10:30 a.m., Balance in Motion

Fridays -- 9-10 a.m., Moving for Better Balance

Mondays and Fridays -- 10:15-11:15 a.m., Water Aerobics

Wednesdays -- 10-11 a.m., Healthy Living Lecture and Focus Groups

Refreshments will be served and all residents are encouraged to attend.

Learn to sail

The Halifax Sailing Association will offer a four-day adult beginner sailing class starting Aug. 3 at 15 Fremont Court, Daytona Beach.

The class will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays.

U.S. Sailing certified instructors will teach basic sailing skills, knots and safety procedures.

Cost for the course is $125. No sailing experience is required. Students must know how to swim and be in good physical health. For more information, visit halifaxsailing.org or email hsa.sail.training@gmail.com

Adult coed softball league planned

Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is offering its 21st annual Adult Coed Softball League.

The season will run from Aug. 19 to about Nov. 14.

Participants must be 18 years of age. The league will be divided up into two or three divisions based on the number of teams and the diverse levels of play.

Each team will play a minimum of 16 games. Games are played Monday through Thursday at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, off of North U.S. 1. Game softballs and team awards will be provided.

The team sponsorship fee is $540. Fees must be paid by Tuesday, Aug 13, to assure a team a spot in the league. All individuals wishing to be on a team, should email Gerry Pitchford, Athletic Supervisor, at pitchford@ormondbeach.org or call (386) 676-3280.

Softball league to begin

DeLand Parks and Recreation will offer a Summer Recreational Adult Softball League at DeLand's Sperling Sports Complex from Aug. 12 through October.

Church, Coed, Women's, Men's and Open divisions will be offered with Church playing Monday nights, men's/women's playing Tuesday nights, coed playing Wednesday nights and open playing Thursday nights.

The league is open to anyone 18 years of age or older.

All divisions will play an 8 p.m. game.

A captains' meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Sperling Sports Complex.
