MELBOURNE -- Veteran's Day may be several months away, but one local business believes that its community should honor the sacrifices and accomplishments of its heroes each day.
On Friday, July 26, One Senior Place will host its inaugural "Every Day is Veteran's Day" event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Because of the already strong response from the veteran community, One Senior Place will host the event at The Brennity, which is located at 7300 Watersong Lane, Melbourne.
"This event has been designed to honor the men and women who have served our country," said Kathi Ridner, director of One Senior Place. "Brevard County is home to a large number of veterans -- young and old -- who should be recognized for their service each and every day. That's why we came up with the title, 'Every Day is Veteran's Day,' because it is!"
Lt. Col. Norris Burkes, a military chaplain and syndicated columnist, will serve as keynote speaker for the inaugural event.
"He will be sharing his own personal experiences and stories of men and women who have served our country while in the military," Mrs. Ridner added.
VITAS Innovative Hospice, a co-sponsor of "Every Day is Veteran's Day," will present a program for veterans and their families, and will provide information about benefits that are available to them.
"We will also have representatives from the AVET Project, The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the National Veterans Homeless Support group and the Spanish American's Veterans Association, just to name a few," Mrs. Ridner added.
In addition to a plethora of veterans' groups with valuable information, attendees will also have a chance to win a variety of door prizes. Mrs. Ridner said gift baskets, flowers, gift cards and more will be up for grabs.
"Every Day is Veteran's Day" is Friday, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. One Senior Place will be hosting the event at The Brennity in Viera.
