PORT ST. LUCIE -- The Homewood Suites by Hilton in Tradition donated $18,000 to the Martin Health Foundation.

The money was raised during the annual Don Led Duke Charity Golf Tournament, hosted by the award-winning Homewood Suites and its parent companies, BBL Hospitality and Equinox Companies. Now in its second year, the event has raised $26,000 to benefit the nonprofit Martin Health System.

Funds were raised over the course of four days in April at PGA Village in St. Lucie West. The event was held to honor the late Donald Led Duke, owner and co-founder of the BBL family of companies, who passed away unexpectedly in September 2010.

Homewood Suites co-owners, Equinox Companies and BBL Hospitality, were instrumental in organizing the tournament and largely responsible for the tournament's success.

"This tournament is a perfect opportunity to support the Martin Health Foundation while honoring the memory of Don Led Duke," said Eric King, president of Equinox Companies. "We are proud to partner with Martin Health on a project that will benefit the health of this community."

The check was presented to Mark Robitaille, president and chief executive officer of Martin Health System, by Carrie Hillenbrandt, BBL Hospitality's corporate director of sales, Catherine Matos, Homewood Suites director of sales and Laura Thomas, Homewood Suites general manager.

Martin Health System is a nonprofit, community-based health care organization that has served the region for more than 70 years.
