Brevard County celebrates America's independence with a bang

BREVARD -- Those looking to celebrate Independence Day with a bang this year can look no further than the many exciting events happening throughout the Space Coast.

Here is a list of some of the county's events:

North Brevard:

"Red, White and Boom 2013," an event which features live music, food, children's activities and a fireworks display, will be held on Thursday, July 4, from 7-10 p.m. at the Chain of Lakes Parks, 2300 Truman Scarborough Way in Titusville.

Fireworks for the event begin at 9:15 p.m.

"Fireworks at the Port" will be visible via a tour boat, leaving from Kelly Park, 2550 N. Banana River Drive, Merritt Island, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.

The boat will travel through the Canaveral Locks and into Port Canaveral, after viewing the Banana River sunset.

Cost is $40 per person, with drinks and snacks included.

The boat should return by 10:30 p.m.

At the "City of Cocoa Fourth of July at Riverfront Park," enjoy a free pops concert with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and fireworks Thursday, July 4, from 4-10 p.m.

The concert starts at 8 p.m., and the fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

Food, beverages and other items will be available for sale at the park, starting at 4 p.m., and admission is free.

The fireworks are brought to you by the city of Cocoa and the city of Rockledge.

Riverfront Park is at 401 Riveredge Blvd., Cocoa Village.

Central Brevard:

"Viera's 19th Annual Great American Celebration" combines American pride with America's pastime.

The event will be held on Friday, July 5, at 5800 Stadium Parkway in Viera, as the Brevard Manatees take on one of their all-time rivals, the Daytona Cubs.

Fans can enjoy an all-you-can-eat barbecue dinner and one of the biggest fireworks displays ever.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the game starts at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are $15 each, cash only, and can be purchased at the Viera Discovery Center, 7350 Shoppes Drive, Suite 103.

The "27th Annual City of Rockledge Independence Day Family Picnic," will be held on Thursday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at McLarty Park, located at 790 Barton Blvd.

The event will feature face painting, family fun, music and other activities.

South Brevard:

"City of Melbourne Independence Day Fireworks" will be at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, over the Indian River Lagoon.

The Claude Edge Front Street Park, just north of the Melbourne Causeway at 2210 Front St., provides primary viewing for the display.

The city of Palm Bay will hold its annual "Splashes & Sparks Independence Day Celebration," sponsored by Health First Health Plans, on Thursday, July 4, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Brevard Community College Palm Bay Campus Fairgrounds.

Thousands are expected to attend the annual event, with live music, along with musical performances by Palm Bay's Idol Competition winners.

Sponsor 98.5 'The Beach' Prize Patrol will be live on location, starting at 7 p.m.

For children, there will be a special Independence Day Bike Parade, where they are encouraged to decorate their bikes in the "red, white and blue" spirit of the holiday.

The evening concludes with a fireworks display starting at 9:15 p.m.

The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug repellant.
