Volusia County's resident professional dance company, Surfscape Contemporary Dance Theatre, offers it's next production, "MAPS & LEGENDS," at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, and 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at 399 N. U.S. 1.
It will be Surfscape's first performance in the venue and feature 11 of the company's highly trained dancers.
The broad range of new choreography by founding artistic directors, Kristin Bender Polizzi and Rachael Leonard, is inspired by intriguing places, faces and stories.
The show will consist of themes, such as maps, landmarks, directions, landscapes, terrain, legendary figures and spatial relationships. The performance will include everything from solos to large ensemble dances, and will also feature a duet by guest choreographer Jerry Opdenaker. The music, costume and set selection for the show will be as diverse and engaging as the choreography and the dancers themselves.
Following the Saturday afternoon performance, the artistic directors and company dancers will discuss their work with the audience.
To get involved with the company or learn more about the upcoming performance season, call (386) 233-4885 or visit www.surfscapedance.org.
Tickets are $28, with a group rate of $22 and student rate of $18, and can be purchased at the box office.
