Tree too much
People sure do get themselves worked up when trees are cut down for progress. I have to wonder if these people got all worked up, complained and protested when they cut down all the trees when their house was built in their current neighborhood. I wonder if they ever thought about that? I see, now that you are here, all progress should halt.
The rant about the parking meters was great. I do love all the new stuff that is happening on Flagler Avenue (in New Smyrna Beach), but I do have one little question. Parking was a premium prior to all the new business on Flagler, so what have the city officials been doing all this time?
You would think, or at least I would think, the parking situation would have been addressed before now. I know in the city meetings the residents brought it up many, many times so now the city has to fix this problem.
Here is a suggestion for you for the future. In some states, obviously not here yet, one thing a builder has to agree to when putting a new building in is they have to provide parking for all the extra vehicles. The business is what will be making the most money, so it does make sense they should be the ones to provide the parking. Hmm, did someone fall asleep in the meetings?
New street crossings were put on A1A in New Smyrna Beach. There is a problem with anyone turning left, as the through lane is now gone. I have had four situations of turning left that I almost got rear-ended. Very scary. What was the middle lane for traffic is now the left turn lane, forcing traffic in this lane to stop until the turn is made. I have been yelled at, sworn at and beeped at just trying to turn onto my street. Thank you for letting me vent.
Encoded yard sale
About one month ago I was spring-cleaning and decided it was time to have a yard sale. I haven't had one in 10 years. It was time to let go of treasures and make a little bit of money for bills. I planned my yard sale. I got signs, my permit and advertised in Edgewater.
The sale was going well until 11 a.m. when code enforcement of Edgewater took down our signs. They knew the sale was still in progress. They knew we had a permit. Where were our rights? After this, we sold very little and I am not sure I have enough for my taxes this month.
Why take it out on me?
Why does my phone, land line or cell, give me poor reception or just poop out. Years ago when Bell Telephone had a monopoly, it was great. There was always excellent sound and always a reasonable monthly bill.
Why does my TV reception cost me anything at all? Years ago, TVs were plugged into the wall outlet and like radios there was no extra charge for the privilege of watching TV.
Why do people who work at today's jobs know so little about their products? Years ago, people knew about their products and were therefore professional with their presentations. Today's employees are uncaring and not really concerned about being fired, which is a word that has almost been kicked out of the English language.
Why do convicted felons go on for another 11 or 12 years before their death sentences are carried out? Years ago, justice was swift, very fair and much cheaper.
Why do presidents of countries go on ultra expensive vacations, complete with families and bodyguards, when citizens of their countries cannot buy bread for the table?
Why weren't the crooked Realtors who lied to people and misrepresented facts to these people just a few years ago tracked down and made to pay for their sins?
Why does our country ship food, arms and other things of value to foreign countries that in a few more years will show their hatred for us?
Why are the thousands of TV ads underlined with ultra minute wording informing us of the legal trappings of certain products? By the time they are done with their sales pitch in the small print you are faced with contracting almost all diseases known to mankind.
Why do minorities throughout the world walk with a permanent chip on their shoulders? Why don't they look at those who overcame hatred and misunderstanding and make something of their lives rather than begging for legal handouts?
What a wonderful Father's Day tribute from Dan Smith. I also hope Ormond Beach picks up his idea to colorfully paint the houses in Ormond Beach.
