Volunteers Janet Jerome and Vicky Rodriguez, both of Port St Lucie, with Kayla Mitchell of Fort Pierce, president of Indian River State College, and Gabriel Chaves, 18, of Fort Pierce, selling cupcakes and cookies to raise money for the event.

The Aaron Project, a fundraising event held June 12 at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta, supported a family scholarship fund designed to recognize St. Lucie County students for excellence in academics, athleticism, and leadership, as well as offering an annual grant to a county teacher who teaches the visual arts. The project is named for Aaron Beauchamp, the nine year old who was killed in a school bus crash on his way home from school in 2012. Aaron excelled in academics, athletics and the visual arts.
