Cadets prepare for liftoff

Cadets from the Civil Air Patrol, based at the TICO Airport, put the finishing touches on their rocket Saturday, June 15. Cadets Matt Weiner, 14, of Rockledge, Luis Fernandez, 15, of Titusville, Jon McMillan, 18, of Cocoa, Daniel Bontrager, 13, of Merritt Island, Mark Brown, 18, of Titusville, and Patrick Good, 17, of Port St. John observe, as Maj. Gary Dahlke, the Squadron Aerospace Education Officer, puts the final touches on the rocket. The rocket went supersonic just after launch. Onboard computers showed the rockets maximum speed was 780 miles per hour and the top altitude was 8,104 feet. The rocket was found in 20 minutes about one mile from the launch site, using a homing beacon.
