'A letter from an 86-year old unhappy camper'
I think volunteering is a great service. I enjoyed doing it for 15 years, but there comes a time when you are unable to do everything you want to do. Many of the arcade patrons are unable to walk the beaches, ride bikes or go on cruises or bus trips because of physical problems. Many use a walker, wheelchair, a cane and oxygen tanks, etc. And, it is difficult for them to do anything.
The arcades were very good for them. They enabled them to be happy and content instead of sitting around and vegetating. Allied Veterans was illegal and a criminal venture, but (our) arcades were nothings like Allied. Because they were not supervised properly, we unhappy seniors are being punished.
Before the next election, I hope the good organization, (AARP - veterans) will remember this and punish the politicians and vote them out of office. Elderly people can still vote in this country.
In closing, let's remember being 80 or 90 years old does not mean you are senile and can't make decisions. We do it every day.
