PORT ST. LUCIE -- Following in the tradition of offering free classes for interested residents that want to learn more, the business department of Port St. Lucie will be offering a free class for contractors this week on Tuesday, June 18.
The classes offered to contractors are slightly different from the classes the building department offers to residents. It is for people interested in pursuing the building trade and for new contractors who have a license already.
"The rules are different for contractors," said Joel Dramis, a building official in a previous interview. "It's important they know what they need to do."
The class focuses on contractor licensing, the city and state requirements to open a contracting business. Special attention will be given to the city's new online capabilities. In the past, up to 40 residents have attended the class.
"People come in well prepared," Mr. Dramis said. "It takes us less time to process the application, which saves the city man-hours."
In the past, the city has offered residents free business training classes to those interested in starting a business and a free workshop for Spanish-speaking business owners.
The class will be held at 2 p.m. on June 18 in the building department's training room on the city hall campus. Seating is limited, so preregistration is recommended.
The building department is located at 121 S.W. Port St. Lucie Blvd. in Port St. Lucie.
