Keeping our City Beautiful
There have been several letters written recently about code enforcement in South Daytona. The most recent one made a good point: Keeping our city clean and in compliance with codes is a shared responsibility.
The city employs one code enforcement officer and there are not enough hours in the day to patrol for all violations. In addition, the economy has played a role in increasing the number of rental units and foreclosed properties.
Code Compliance deals with a range of neighborhood issues, from vehicles parked in yards to uncut grass and unsightly debris on property. The department also checks for illegal conversions and building without a permit.
Community participation is needed to keep our city beautiful. Click on the Mayor's Action Center on the city website's at www.southdaytona.org to fill out a code complaint form. Or call us at (386) 322-3020 and report a problem. Both options can be completely anonymous. Help us to continue to maintain the quality of life we enjoy.
