PORT ST. LUCIE -- The wind slowly unfurled the many flags that were present at the Memorial Day Celebration, held on May 27 at Veterans Memorial Park in Port St. Lucie.
Veterans and residents gathered for the ceremony, which was put together by the Port St. Lucie Parks and Recreation department.
The event was a community event, with a variety of veteran and community groups in attendance.
The pre-ceremony music was performed by the Port St. Lucie Concert Band, as well as a melody of armed service themes, and finishing with Taps.
The master of ceremonies was Army Veteran Peter Popolizio, commander of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 106.
Guest speakers represented four conflicts: World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam Era and the Iraq War.
One of the special moments of the day was a wreath tribute to the fellow veterans who have died in the last 12 months.
The celebration ended with everyone in attendance singing "God Bless America."
