Marine Sgt. Tyler Garrison places the wreath in the Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary Cenotaph Square during Monday's ceremony. An estimated 1,500 people gathered on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary Monday morning to pay tribute to those who gave their lives to keep the United States and our allies free. Nearly two-dozen military organizations were represented. The Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians Marching Band played patriotic music to the delight of the crowd. Each year the crowd seems to get larger, said one of the attendees. One thing is for sure, patriotism is alive and well in Indian River County.
