New coach hired

Halifax Academy has hired Dahryll Brown to take over its fledgling football program.

The school has been playing six-on-six football for two years.

Halifax Academy looks to continue to grow the program under its new coach and plans on making the move to 11-man football by the 2014 season.

"Coach Brown brings a seriousness and discipline that we need to grow and build the program into a successful one. Not just on the field, but off as well and you can already see a big difference in attitude," said Shamus Dougherty, Halifax Academy's athletic director.

The Knights first test under Coach Brown came recently in the spring game.

The Knights fell in overtime 50-42 to the Town n' Country Falcons, but saw huge improvements from the fall. The Knights trailed 32-12 at halftime, but rallied in the second half to tie it in the fourth quarter. The Eagles scored on their overtime possession while the Knights miscued, fumbling the ball on second and goal.
