MELBOURNE -- Historic Downtown Melbourne has long been a mecca for local fashionistas, artists and creatures of the night.

Now, thanks to the brilliant partnership between Foo Bar and the Central Brevard Humane Society, Downtown Melbourne is the new hot spot for four-legged friends.

On Saturday, May 25, the Humane Society and Foo Bar will host "Foo Dog Days" from 1-4 p.m. This monthly event will feature adoptable animals at Foo Bar and Molly Mutt II Thrift Shop.

Admission is free, and all animals must be on a leash or in a carrier and have current proof of shots, along with a county-issued tag.

"We started partnering with Foo Bar on this event in September 2012," said Eileen Cole, media relations manager for the Central Brevard Humane Society.

"Foo Dog Days" will have a wide variety of activities for humans and their pets to enjoy, such as hors d'oeuvres and doggie treats, raffles and drink specials.

"We will be raffling off bottles of wine, 'Paw Buck' gift certificates from the Central Brevard Humane Society, a kayak tour, which will be held in the Melbourne area, and a floral arrangement," Ms. Cole said.

Foo Bar and the Humane Society will also be accepting donations for the organization during the event.

"We are most in need of Purina kitten and puppy chow, dish soap, laundry soap, Clorox bleach, paper towels, rubbing alcohol, a digital camera, medium and large metal collapsible dog crates, and a washer and dryer," Ms. Cole added.

The Central Brevard Humane Society will also be providing the public with fun, educational information about responsible pet ownership, with merchandise available for purchase.

"This is a great event for both pets and pet lovers, as the proceeds from the event will help the many abandoned and unwanted pets that visit the Central Brevard Humane Society each year," Ms. Cole said. "These animals are in need of a safe and loving 'forever' home."

"Foo Dog Days" is Saturday, May 25 from 1-4 p.m. at Foo Bar and Molly Mutt II Thrift Shop in Historic Downtown Melbourne.

Foo Bar is located at 816 E. New Haven Ave, Melbourne.
