FORT PIERCE -- Rodney Smith, CEO of Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, announced his retirement on May 10. Mr. Smith has been with Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for five years and will officially retire on July 31.
"I have had the privilege of working with an extraordinary Board of Trustees, world-class medical staff, exceptional caring and committed employees, generous volunteers and community supporters," said Mr. Smith. "I have been thinking about retirement for quite some time. With the additional responsibility for caring for my two young grandchildren, I felt it was the right time for me to retire."
During Mr. Smith's tenure, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center saw substantial growth, including the Treasure Coast Level II Trauma Center, the opening of a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a new Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the growth of state-of-the-art Heart Institute.
"We have greatly appreciated Rodney's efforts over the past years and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Michael Joseph, CEO and President of HCA East Florida.
An executive search is currently underway for a new CEO.
