RSVP volunteers contribute $1.3 million in volunteer services

MARTIN COUNTY -- United Way of Martin County's Martin Volunteers program recently honored its RSVP volunteers during a luncheon at Carrabba's Italian Grill in Stuart.

Martin Volunteers' Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is comprised of 886 dedicated volunteers. The annual luncheon is an opportunity to honor RSVP volunteers who donated more than 100 hours of their time in 2012, or had reached either the 5, 10 or 15 years of service milestone.

"RSVP volunteers are a treasure and Martin Volunteers knows how to convert their good intentions into greater impact," said Carol Hodnett, director of Martin Volunteers. "We appreciate the service they provide in helping local nonprofit agencies accomplish their missions."

Last year, RSVP volunteers contributed in excess of 62,313 hours of service to nonprofit agencies in Martin County - an approximate value of more than $1,380,000 in volunteer services, according to the Independent Sector.

The following volunteers were recognized for their dedicated volunteer service:

Fifteen years - Susan Allyn, White Doves Holiday Project.

Ten years - Carolyn Beaumont, Florida Oceanographic Society; Debra Blaetterlein, White Doves Holiday Project; Ed Singer, Stuart Police Department; Lois Behrend, Hope Rural School; Betty Belshaw, Caring Children Clothing Children; Alan Campbell, Martin County Sheriff's Office; Mary Lou Connelly, RSVP; Lucille Hayes, House of Hope; Carol Laurent, Caring Children Clothing Children; Lois J.
