MARTIN COUNTY -- All eighteen high school rowers of the Treasure Coast Rowing Club Junior team won at least one medal at the recent Miami International Regatta held at Biscayne Bay.
In total, the team took home three gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Nineteen teams, of which three were international and two from out-of-state, competed in 50 plus races. Each race is 1,500 meters long.
Winning gold medals were the following boats:
Men's Novice 4 - coxswain Nick Koedam (South Fork), stroke seat Ben Laing (Pine School), Leif Palker (Martin County), Noah Jones (South Fork), and Evan Farrara (Jensen Beach).
Men's Varsity 4 - coxswain Maggie Martin (South Fork), stroke seat Alex Pfeiffer (Pine School), Mitchel Hochman (Martin County), Devin Curran (Martin County), and Mitchell Gordon (Martin County).
Mixed High School 8 - coxswain Ashley Meade (Martin County), stroke seat Mitchell Gordon, Stephen Beck (Martin County), Matt San Juan (Martin County), Mitchel Hochman, Maddie Shaff (Martin County), Kim Keyser (Clark), Avery DeVault (Martin County), and Sarah Larson (Jensen Beach).
Winning silver medals were the following boats:
Men's Junior Varsity 4 - coxswain Maggie Martin, stroke seat Ben Laing, Stephen Beck, Nick Koedam and Matt San Juan.
Women's Varsity 4 - coxswain Scott Scher (Jensen Beach), stroke seat Avery DeVault, Maddie Shaff, Kim Keyser and Sarah Larson.
Winning bronze medals were the following boats:
Men's Varsity Single - Alex Pfeiffer
Men's Double - Devin Curran and Alex Pfeiffer
Founded in 1991, the Treasure Coast Rowing Club began as a masters (adults) club. In the spring of 2010, the juniors program became part of the club offering a competitive program on the Treasure Coast for male and female high school students. With seasons in the fall and spring, the program aims to be competitive at the state level.
