The United Way Volunteer Center and Bright House Networks conducted the 26th Annual Outstanding Volunteers of the Year Awards on Thursday, April 25, in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.
The ceremony, hosted by WESH-2 News' Jim Payne, honored 47 nominees, who, in the past year, dedicated themselves, their time and their talents to their community.
The 47 nominees served more than 56,000 hours during 2012, which represents an estimated value of $1.239 million based on the Independent Sector's Value of a Volunteer's Hour in 2011.
The honors are:

Outstanding Civic/ Community Group of the Year and Overall Outstanding Group Volunteers of the Year - Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Patient Kitchen Volunteers
Outstanding Civic/ Community Group of the Year Runner-Up - New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater Fire Department
Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year and Overall Outstanding Individual Volunteer of the Year - William "Bill" Ellis
Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year Runner-Up - William "Bill" Turner
Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year - Vivian Gjessing
Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year Runner-Up Lief Fox
Outstanding Youth Group of the Year - Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties Edgewater Unit
