Best places to work program holds kick-off event

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- The 2013 Indian River County Best Places to Work Kick off event will be held at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 16 at the Riverside Theatre. Opening remarks will be made by Dr. Tony Villamil, the dean of the School of Business of St. Thomas University of Florida.

The kickoff is an opportunity for area businesses to learn more about the nationally recognized Best Places to Work program. Mr. Villamil has served a presidential appointee United States Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs and Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Commerce. He is also the founder of the economic consulting practice, the Washington Economics Group.

Workforce Solutions, with support from the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce, the Treasure Coast HR Association and Indian River Chamber of Commerce, presents the 2013 Indian River County Best Places to Work Program.

Best Places to Work is a national program that was developed to provide a confidential forum for local employers to participate in an evaluation of various local workplace best practices and programs. It provides an opportunity for employers to compare themselves to others of a similar size and serves as a valuable tool for business and human resource planning.

Last year's winners for the category of 25 employees and under were Brite Future Electric; Kmetz, Nuttall, Graham, CPA; Legler Orthodontics; and Spectrum Interior. In the category 25 to 150 employees the winners were Florida Eye Institute; Girard Equipment; Riverside Theatre; and Treasure Coast Community Health. In the category over 150 employees, the winners were Comcast; CVS Distribution Center; Seacoast National Bank; and VNA of the Treasure Coast.

This year, the companies indentified as Best Places to Work will be honored at a prestigious awards luncheon in October.

The kickoff will be held at 7:45 a.m. May 16 at Riverside Theatre, located at 3250 Riverside Park Riverside Theatre is also the kickoff sponsor for this year's event. A continental breakfast will be served.
