'Swimming in the Infinite: A Solo Exhibition'

Nancy Hamlin-Vogler will explore the infinite in her solo show at the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in Melbourne. The show is running now through June 2.

Her artwork is gestural and spontaneous, while maintaining comprehensible proportions.

She works on prepared paper, using acrylic aqueous mediums combined with gesso, charcoal, conte and pastels, occasionally adding pasted paper elements from silk screens or drawings.

Ms. Hamlin-Vogler's work reflects her roots in Cape Cod and Maine, with worldwide travels in between. The St. Augustine artist will also give a Second Saturday Gallery Talk and Demo on at 2 p.m. May 11 at the gallery.

Ms. Hamlin-Vogler studied art at Wells College and learned the screen-printing process while earning a master's degree in French literature at the University of Maine.

An award-winning artist, she is a member of the St. Augustine Art Association and exhibits in gallery shows throughout Florida. For the past ten years, she has co-directed the Louise Freshman Brown Art Workshops in St. Augustine.

The opening reception for the show will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3. Meet Ms. Hamlin-Vogler as you enjoy viewing the artwork.

Complimentary light refreshments are served during the opening reception, which is open to the public.

Gallery member receives award

A member of Fifth Avenue Art Gallery, Earl Evans, received his second consecutive "Photograph of the Year Award" during the Indian River Photo Club's annual year-end banquet and competition.

This is the first time that a member has collected the club's highest individual award two years in a row.

The 2012 award was for his old barn image, "Last Light," while 2011 was for the "Great Blue Heron piece, Irritated."

The Indian River Photo Club of Vero Beach, one of the state's larger and more established photography groups, also holds monthly contests and sponsors the annual photo competition for the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Mr. Evans has won numerous awards in these competitions.

In addition to being a member of the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery, he is vice-president of the Camera Club of Brevard and a member of the Beech Mountain, N.C. Art Guild.

Variety of art classes

The Central Brevard Art Association offers art classes throughout the week, excepting Sundays.

Being offered is oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, pastel, mixed media, silks, tole painting and jewelry.

Beginners are always welcome, as it's an opportunity to unleash and develop those hidden talents. Membership is not required to attend classes.

Art Gallery of Viera artists do it again

 

Anywhere that Art Gallery of Viera artists go, they come home with awards.

Deb Pettigrew, pastel artist and teacher at Art Gallery of Viera, won first place for her piece, "Lingering," at the 49th Annual Titusville Art League Spring Art Show.

But she's not alone, Linda Krupp, oil painter, won a merit award for "A Moment in Time" at the same show.

Heidi Stocker won first place for her beautiful stained glass work at the Strawbridge Art Leagues' "Mini-Vision's" Show.

Gallery award winners

The Downtown Gallery has announced that four top artists received awards at the Titusville Art League's 49th Annual Spring Show.

In photography, second place went to Heidi Thamert for "Tools of the Trade," and a merit to Dale Nichols for "My Little Friend."

In watercolor, Diane DeShong Cannon received two merit awards for "My Pink Cadillac" and for "Greenhouse Guests."

And in the category of oil and acrylic, Linda Krupp received a merit for "A Moment in Time.

The silent world of 'innerspace'

Michael Robinson was the "2012 100% Pure Florida" winner. He will join in for the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery opening reception during the monthly First Friday event in old Eau Gallie in Melbourne. Peruse the avenue and the galleries and take in a wonderful evening.

The opening reception will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 7 at 1470 Highland Ave. in Melbourne.

In Mr. Robinson's hands, glass is not worked or manipulated, but transformed into designs that suspend time.

Captured in this exquisitely unforgiving medium is a portal into the mind's eye of this talented artist.

Entry may take us to a distant windswept shore or result in the quiet contemplation of a single perfect bloom or plunge us into the depths of that remote region known as innerspace. It is when speaking of this silent world that Mr. Robinson's voice is most clear.

The exhibit runs from June 3-30.

Art summer program

The Central Brevard Art Association, a nonprofit 501c(3), is sponsoring a two-week summer program for children at its studio at 103 Barton Blvd., Rockledge, from June 10-21, Monday through Fridays.

Classes will be divided by age groups: mornings for ages 6-10 and afternoons for ages 11-15.

Drawing and painting, print making, 3-D hand constructions and 2-D mixed media are all part of the curriculum taught by Peggy Nolan, who can be reached at artmomnolan@msn.com or at (321) 636-3540 or (321) 544-5990.

Cost is $90 for each child for the two-week period.
