Choose to stay slim

Childhood obesity has more than doubled in American children and tripled in American adolescents in the past 30 years.

Head Start introduced a new, little, green alien creature name Choosy to our children. Choosy's goal was to get children up and moving while teaching them the importance of choosing healthy fruits, vegetables and drinking water as an alternative to sugary drinks.

The program is called, "I'm Moving, I'm Learning." Choosy comes equipped with songs, lyrics, and dances which teach the children the benefits of exercising, building strong bones and muscle; producing leaner bodies; lower blood pressure; and a decrease in fatty tissues.

Since the Head Start Initiative took effect, there has been a decrease in the number of overweight and obese children in Head Start programs. This program also has increased the children's understanding of how to pick and eat healthy fruits, vegetables and drinks for snacks and meals.
