Paddleboard races finishing up
The season finale of the Mayor's River Fest paddleboard races will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at the 27th Avenue Beach approach in New Smyrna Beach.
The fourth race in the series will include a lap-style course in and out of the surf line.
The theme is a Battle of the Paddle style race, which is most common in Hawaii and California, according to Erik Lumbert, race director and owner of Paddleboard New Smyrna Beach. "This style of course is extremely spectator friendly as onlookers can watch the entire field at once. However, safety is paramount. We'll move the course to the lagoon or (Intracoastal Waterway) if conditions are not suitable."
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $29 for the short course or $39 for the long course. To pre-register for the race, call Mr. Lumbert at (386) 530-3868 or email email@example.com.
