Hello, everyone. It is said that the journey to end cancer starts with a single step.

This weekend, hundreds of volunteers, cancer victims and their families will spend Saturday and Sunday at the St. Lucie West Relay for Life taking their steps and doing their part to bring awareness to this horrible disease.

I have lost too many of my family members to cancer. I have walked at a number of relays, spoken at a number of kickoffs and hugged too many people to count.

I have stood quietly and smiled as I watched families walk together, rejoicing in their united stand.

I have stood quietly and cried as I watched luminaries for my mom and dad flicker quietly in the dark, then looked around at the hundreds of luminaries -- the hundreds of lives -- that ended much too soon because of cancer.

We all fight this in our own way, and one of my strengths is my words. I use them to encourage, to educate and to support.

To cancer, though, I have just one word: enough.

We are coming closer to a cure every year, and I am optimistic that I will see strides in research in various cancers during my lifetime.

Until then, we cry, we laugh and we go on. We keep taking our steps.

I support each and every one of you, and don't be surprised if you see me walking next to you sometime.
