Two men suspected in pillowcase burglaries
On April 17, Port St. Lucie police received information from the Martin County Sheriff's office with a description of burglary suspects that just hit a home on Washington Street in Stuart.
An officer spotted the suspect's car traveling north on I-95. Searching the car, the officers found burglary tools.
Arrested were Elijah Harris and Clarence Westbrook, both of Fort Lauderdale, for possession of burglary tools.
Two teen burglars chased by homeowner
On April 18, Port St. Lucie police responded to a burglary call. The victim told the police he woke to find two teenage suspects inside his house gathering items.
When the two suspects saw the victim, they fled, and the victim chased them down the street. When the suspect returned home, he found a cell phone that had been dropped.
The police called the phone number entitled "MOM," and spoke to the mother of one of the suspects.
The two juveniles were arrested after being found to have also stolen bicycles from Swan Park before committing the house burglary.
Toddler found wandering outside
On April 18, a Port St. Lucie motorist found a two-year-old child wondering the neighborhood. The motorist saw the little girl standing in the swale, and the motorist and a nearby neighbor searched for the toddler's parents.
When police arrived, they and nearby residents searched for family or friends of the child. An hour after the child was found, she was reunited with her family.
The police are investigating this further into possible charges of child neglect.
National prescription drug take back day is Saturday
On Saturday, April 27, St. Lucie County residents can bring unwanted, expired or unused drugs to the lobby of the Sheriff's Office and St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie for safe disposal.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program is for controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances only. Not included are syringes, needles or open liquid medications.
The Sheriff's Office is located at 4700 West Midway Road in Fort Pierce, and St. Lucie Medical Center is located at 1800 S.E. Tiffany Ave. in Port St. Lucie.
