The Martin County Community Development Department is inviting the public to participate in the creation of the Rio Public Art and Placemaking Plan.

A kick-off meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Rio Civic Center, located at 1255 N.E. Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach.

"If you have ideas on creating great community spaces to enhance the look and feel of Rio, this is the perfect opportunity to share those ideas and interact with an illustrator while he transforms them into artistic representations," said Nancy Johnson, a community development representative.

At the meeting, illustrator John Zanetta of Zanetta Illustration will be on hand to bring resident ideas to life on paper.

The residents will also learn what's been happening to promote the creation of expressive spaces in the Rio area.

After the kick-off meeting, there will be "drop-in" workshops scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 30 and May 1, where residents can stop by and see the illustrator drawing out the ideas.

The final presentation for the project will take place at 6 p.m. on May 1. There, residents will here a recap of the week's activities, and see the initial draft illustrations completed by Mr. Zanetta.

Residents will also learn about the next step that will take place in the public art and placemaking plan.

For more information, call (772) 463-3288.
