BREVARD -- A highly talented group of Brevard youth will sing to their heart's content this weekend.
The Brevard Children's Chorus is hosting a free spring concert on Saturday, April 27 at Rockledge Presbyterian Church. The performance is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
A nonprofit group, the Brevard Children's Chorus is an ensemble of auditioned singers between grades fourth through 10th; the more advanced singers belong to the group's Youth Ensemble.
"We hold auditions in August and January," said Joani Slawson, Brevard Children's Chorus director. "Students are to sing a song of their choice, as well as perform vocal exercises to determine pitch range and pitch matching exercises."
The Brevard Children's Chorus, which performs about seven times per year, will sing a variety of music for this Saturday's program, ranging from classical to multicultural.
Ms. Slawson said "Jubilate Deo" and Mozart's "Alleluia Round" will be accompanied by an African song called "Bonse Aba."
"Music plays a big part in the lives of these kids," Ms. Slawson said. "They've been rehearsing the concert for weeks and are excited to show the world what they can do. We have a very diverse and enjoyable program on tap for the audience."
Although the concert is free, the Brevard Children's Chorus will be accepting donations.
"Donations will go to help students, who need tuition assistance to belong to the chorus, and general operating costs," Ms. Slawson added.
"People should attend this concert to hear beautiful music sung by very talented children," Ms. Slawson said. "It will bring a smile to their face and joy to their lives."
The spring concert hosted by the Brevard Children's Chorus is Saturday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Rockledge Presbyterian Church.
