Brevard Zoo volunteer Laurie Der of Cocoa gives guests a hands-on demonstration of the zoo's slogan: 'Wildlife Conservation Through Education and Participation,' as they construct oyster mats. Oyster mats give young oysters a solid place to live and grow, while adult oysters help the ecosystem by filtering water. Peeking over the table is Ariyana Herrine, 2, of Melbourne, as Kaitlyn Holtz, 10, Ally Holtz, 6, of Port St. Richey and Vincent Herrine, 5, of Melbourne listen to the demonstration.
