PALM BAY -- For 25 years, K's Vertical Blinds in Palm Bay has provided customers with a personable and professional touch when it comes to selecting the right blinds for your space.

"My husband started the company in 1988," said Alice Keighler, who co-owns the company with her children. "He was retired military, and he wanted something that he and the boys could do together."

Home of a variety blinds and the unique and patented "Peacock Arch," a multicolored window treatment made in the shape of a peacock feather, K's Vertical Blinds helps customers find what they need at an inexpensive price.

"If something can be fixed cheaper, we will tell them," Mrs. Keighler said. "I had a fellow in here one time, who needed a piece for his blinds, so I found the right size for him and gave it to him for free if he promised to come see me when he needed new blinds. Two years later, he came back and reminded me of that instance."

Mrs. Keighler said other stores that sell blinds will often try and force a customer into buying something new, rather than attempting to fix whatever the problem may be.

"A lot of companies won't fix blinds, but we will," she said. "We try and have a fast turn around, but we aren't perfect. We are human and there are errors made at times, but we make every effort to fix it as fast as we can."

Being the only surviving blinds store in Palm Bay, Mrs. Keighler said she thanks her customers for helping her business stay alive through word-of-mouth and customer loyalty.

"We have appreciated their business," she said. "It has kept us going through tough times when I know it's been tough times for them. But I think it has turned out great and has been really enjoyable."

For the future, Mrs. Keighler said she hopes to keep the business in the family for many generations to come.

"We are training our grandson right now because, someday, I will have to bow-out, and we all will because we keep getting older," she said. "I'd love to pass (the business) down through the generations."

K's Vertical Blinds is located at 2651 Palm Bay Road in Palm Bay.
