VERO BEACH -- The Taste of Vero took place on April 10 to a sold-out crowd.

The event on Ocean Drive was deemed an outstanding success by organizers.

A sold-out crowd, beautiful weather and fantastic music by Seaside Strings, Barbara Gomulka, Dase' Vu Trio, Low Key, and the Chris Fenn Band contributed to the festive atmosphere.

Event goers strolled Ocean Drive tasting delicacies, window shopping, dancing and having a great time.

Nineteen local restaurants and catering companies participated this year, competing for first place in the People's Choice Awards for Outstanding Food & Best Themed Booth.

The winner for the Outstanding Food award was Shutters at Disney's Vero Beach Resorts, for their guava barbeque pork ribs served with green papaya slaw. Chef Albert Fort made their ribs on site, tantalizing event goers with the wonderful aroma.

In second place by a slim margin was Chef Christopher Bireley of Osceola Bistro, who served shrimp bisque, garnished with basil oil and potato-encrusted dirty oysters.

The winner of the Best Themed Booth award goes to White Glove & Blue Star Wine Bar for their western themed and totally decked out booth featuring a cactus and jail surrounded by hay bales.

The award for second place goes to Marine Bank & Trust and Ocean Grill for their calypso island themed booth featuring fine dining with conch shell centerpieces, and Adirondack chairs for guests to relax. They did a fantastic job and really created a fun and fresh atmosphere.

"We are so thrilled with the results and look forward to an even bigger and better event next year," said Brittany Swartz, with the Oceanside Business Association.
