MELBOURNE BEACH -- Jean Legere uses his franchise to help communities, and it is with this philosophy that he plans to help Melbourne Beach.

"We are the No. 1 franchise in growth and the only franchise that has healthy kid options," he said, in regard to the nine Subways he owns with his company, Pryor and Pryor Inc., throughout Florida.

On Saturday, April 20, Pryor and Pryor Inc., an Ocoee-based company, will be opening its first Brevard County Subway in Melbourne Beach.

"This is a great opportunity to move to the area and showcase our brand and work with the community," Mr. Legere said. "We do a tremendous amount of work with schools and churches to build that brand and to help out Melbourne Beach."

In honor of the grand opening, the eatery will be offering a buy-one, get-one free special all day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for all items, including sandwiches, salads and flatbreads.

"It's a great special," he said. "It's a good product, and, for a lot of surfers in the area, it's good to come get breakfast, go back out to the beach and then come back later for dinner."

At Subway, guests can choose from a variety of sub sandwiches, including $5 foot longs and $3 6-inch selects.

Born in Connecticut, Mr. Legere said he moved to Florida with his family when he was 2. Since 1985, he, his younger brothers, Stephen, Gayle and John, and his parents have all been involved with the business.

Mr. Legere said opening the new business in Brevard is something out of the comfort zone for his company but is also exciting to expand and grow with local organizations and the community.

"We are trying to build and grow our first store out of our comfort zone, out of our original territory," he said. "We do spirit nights with all of the schools and try to integrate with everything around us in the community. Whether it is a sport, club or program, we have a pretty good equation with local schools that works well."

Subway is located at 3830 S. Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach and is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
