Astronomy professor in concert with symphony

TREASURE COAST -- Indian River State College Associate Professor and Director of the Hallstrom Planetarium Jon Bell will be teaming up with the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony in its Spring concert, Britannia and Beyond.

The concert is at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15 at The Lyric Theatre in downtown Stuart. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students and can be purchased at the Lyric Box Office, by phone at (772) 286-7827 or online at www.lyrictheatre.com.

Mr. Bell will bring his knowledge and love of astronomy to the symphony program in an introduction to the orchestra's performance of Gustav Holst's The Planets.

The symphony will perform Venus -- the Bringer of Peace, Uranus -- the Magician and Jupiter -- the Bringer of Jollity movements with projected images from the Hubble telescope and NASA.

Other English compositions to be performed include: Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold and the English Folk Song Suite by Vaughn Williams,

A special side trip is hosted by violinist Justin Gomez, the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony's 2013 Concerto Competition Winner, who plans to take the orchestra on a Russian detour with his performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.

The orchestra's conductors are Dr. John Enyart, Thomas Servinsky, and Benjamin Enyart.

The Treasure Coast Youth Symphony will also perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at the Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens.
