People that make the community special

Hello, everyone.

I can't help but notice the large number of people that step up to volunteer and make a difference in this community. Their actions and efforts are certainly appreciated.

But for all of those that help, I'm sure there are an equal number of people who work every day at their jobs to make this community better.

I wanted to focus a little bit on those people this week, because they deserve just as much recognition.

This week, I want to congratulate Jean Ballou. Ms. Ballou works for Galaxy Aviation in Stuart. For the first time, a survey asked which employees go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. More than 500 responses were received, and Ms. Ballou's name was mentioned repeatedly.

I also want to thank Rozeta Mahboubi, the executive director of the Martin County Convention and Visitors Bureau, for bringing Ms. Ballou's name to my attention.

It's everyday employees that make living in Martin County such an enjoyable experience.

Another group that does so much here is the United Way of Martin County, and now that the fundraising cycle is coming to an end in June, the organization is looking for one more push to help meet the needs of the community.

To help with this, they created a tongue-in-cheek video, that can be found at www.youtube.com. Volunteers have re-enacted a number of scenes from the movie Rocky, using Martin County setting and residents. Just type in "Martin County Inner Rocky" into the You Tube search engine, and it should be the first video in the list.

Enjoy the video, and I hope you discover your "inner Rocky" and put just a little energy towards making this community better for all. I know I will.
