Everyone who has had children in the school system is familiar with the beginning of the year routine, helping the schools out by purchasing supplies for the students.
Even throughout the year, there are various fundraisers, from gift wrap to candy bars, where the proceeds all go to help the school.
I try to help when and where I can, but a person can only buy so much gift wrap.
That's why I was excited to find that Oslo Middle School in Vero Beach has organized its very first golf tournament to raise money not only for its educational programs, but for its arts and athletic programs as well.
Now this is something I can do. I can spend the day doing something I enjoy, while at the same time raising money for a local school.
The tournament takes place on April 27, so there is still plenty of time to put a team together and have fun for a good cause.
The cost is only $90 for an individual or $320 for a foursome. The tournament will take place at the Fairwinds Golf Course and will include 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, driving range balls, a bag drop service and lunch.
This would also be a great way to reach the parents of about 900 middle school students in a positive way. I'm sure there are sponsorship spots still available, and I know that I love to support the businesses that support my kids.
While a golf tournament might not be everyone's idea of fun, I do appreciate the school trying to think outside the box and come up with fundraisers that move past the gift wrap.
I look forward to see what Oslo Middle School will do in the future.
