Volusia County plans summer camps for kids

Kids can learn, play and explore during Volusia County's summer camps, offered at 20 sites.

Parks, Recreation and Culture

The county's recreation program is offering eight weeks of supervised activities, sports, crafts and field trips for children ages 5 to 15. The camps will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 10 through Aug. 2. The cost is $65 per week plus a one-time $15 registration fee. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon May 18 and June 1 at each site. For more information, call (386) 736-5953.

Clown-Tastics! Camps

A professional clown will lead Clown-Tastics! Camps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14 at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.; and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 29 through Aug. 2 at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle. Children will learn clown basics. Tuition for each five-day class is $50. Class size is limited to 10 children. Lyonia Environmental Center

Children can experience the wonders of Volusia County through guided hikes, field studies and games at Lyonia Environmental Center 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona. Participants will design a T-shirt, create crafts and learn how they can help protect the environment. Each week will have a different theme. The cost is $65 per week plus a one-time $15 registration fee. Call (386) 789-7207, Ext. 251, to register.

Camps for children ages 6 to 9 include June 17-21, earth appreciation; July 8-12, birds and reptiles; July 22-26, mammals and insects.

Camps for children ages 10 to 13 include June 24-28, earth appreciation; July 15-19, birds and reptiles; July 29-Aug. 2, mammals and insects.

4-H Clubs

Volusia County's 4-H clubs will sponsor an "Out of this world" residential summer camp June 17-21 at 4-H Camp Ocala. Children who are 8 to 13 as of Sept. 1, 2012, are eligible. Youth ages 14 to 18 can apply for counselor positions. The $225 fee is due by June 7. Registration forms will be available in early April at www.volusia.org/4-H.

Daytona State to host free summer camps at ATC

Daytona State College is offering a series of free, four-day summer camps for Volusia County high school students in grades 9-11.

All camps will be June 10-13, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Advanced Technology College, 1770 Technology Blvd., Daytona Beach.

A total of 80 students (20 students per camp) will have the opportunity to participate in the following camps: Robotics, Interior Design, Machining and AUTOCAD/Drafting.

Students must be in a standard diploma track and have a teacher recommendation. Limited bus transportation will be provided.

Students can pick up applications from their school guidance department or their career and technical teacher. They must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30, to Debra Dumas, Career and Technical Education, DeLand Administrative Complex, 200 N. Clara Ave., DeLand, FL. 32720. Students will be notified of camp acceptance by Friday, May 17.

ArtHaus Summer Art Camp Program

Join ArtHaus' 2013 Summer Art Camp program and let your child become an imaginary traveler while developing their creativity and artistic talents through drawings, paintings and 3-Dimensional artworks.

Weekly classes start June 10 and continue through Aug 2.

A one week session is $95 Sessions are 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday for ages 5-8 yrs, and 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 9-13 yrs.

Summer art camp at Ormond Memorial Art Museum

Summer camp at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum is designed for children ages 6-12. Camp begins at 9a.m. and runs until noon, Monday to Friday at 78 E. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach.

Each week is a different camp.

"Fashionista! Starring you!" will be June 17 to 21.

"Myths, Monsters and Mermaids" is June 24 to 28.

"Fabulous Florida Flora and Fauna" will be July 8 - 12.

"Rocket into Space with the Aliens" will be July 15 to 19.

Cost is $112.50 for members and $125 for non-members.

Art is Creation Camp

Art is Creation Summer Camps will be in June.

TeenExtreme camps are for students in sixth through 12 grades. Camps will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 17 to 21 and June 24 to 28. Cost is $100 per week. Camp will include digital arts, painting with lights, jewelry making, wood sculpting, 3-D additive sculpture, painting to music, clay drawing and more.

Kids Create camp is for children age 5 and a half to fifth grade. The camp will cover face painting, mask making, veggie printing, collage making, painting, clay and kite making. Cost is $100.

Camps are at the Artists' Workshop, 540 Barracuda Blvd., New Smyrna Beach.

Art summer camp

Gretchen Neal will offer seven weeks of art camps at St. James Episcopal Church and School, 38 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach.

Camps are from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday. Camps are for children ages 5 to 12. Cost is $125 per week and includes supplies.

For an additional fee, children may be enrolled in the St. James Episcopal Church and School all day summer camp program, which is open until 5 p.m.

Week one is June 17-June 21. The topic will be Drawing Entangled Art. Week two is June 24-28. The topic is Indie Crafts Experience. Week three is July 8-12. The topic is Super Hero Week. Design. Week four is July 15-19. The topic will be "It's all about me." Week 5 is July 22-26. The topic is that '60s Camp. Week six is July 29-Aug. 2. The topic is A Passion for Fashion. Week 7 is Aug. 5-9. The topic is "Sizzzlin' Sea Stuff."

Campers should bring their own snack.

MOAS announces annual summer learning institute

Sponsored by Bright House Networks, the 2013 Summer Learning Institute for children aged 4-13 at the Museum of Arts & Sciences begins June 10 and runs through Aug. 2 (no classes week of July 4).

The weekly sessions include half-day and full-day sessions with activities ranging from architecture to science and physics to art and paleontology.

Each class is $80 for members or $90 for non-members, per student.

All classes will be at the Museum of Arts & Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.
