ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- Every Thanksgiving the good people of our community rally to ensure that no one goes hungry for the holidays. The shelves of our food pantries are filled and, for a while, we don't have to worry that children and seniors in the community will go to bed hungry.
But about this time of year, the cupboards once again are now bare in homes and food pantries. But with the community's help, the Van Duzer Foundation, Mustard Seed Ministries, Sarah's Kitchen and Florida's Blood Centers want to change that.
On Wednesday, April 10, the Van Duzer Foundation, in conjunction with Big Apple Pizza Fort Pierce, will try to raise awareness by raising 100,000 pounds of food in one day.
The goal is to try to reach 100,000 pounds of food raised in one day that will go to Mustard Seed Ministries.
Florida's Blood Centers -- now known as OneBlood -- will be on hand collecting donations of blood.
People are asked to bring food donations to Big Apple Pizza between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
