MARTIN COUNTY -- It's not every day that bets are placed on a cow. And, it's even rarer that the bet is where the cow may "fertilize." But, for schools in Martin County, all bets, and eyes, will be on Juliette the Cow on April 6.
For $10, a deeded square can be bought, and at 1 p.m., Juliette will be led onto the field where the first square that is "fertilized" will named the winner. Whoever holds the deed to that square will win $2,500. The second square fertilized will win $1,000 and the third square, $500.
Admission to the event, which will be held at the Martin County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., is $1 and a canned good. There will be a barbecue, live music and entertainers, including The Cactus Moon Dancers.
There will be entertainment for children, including bounce houses, face painting, pony rides and slides. There will also be a dunk tank, arts and crafts, a bake sale and raffles.
The Big Red Bus will also be present for those who would like to donate blood.
Proceeds from the event will benefit college scholarships for the four Martin County High Schools.
