MARTIN COUNTY -- Next to Normal, the winner of three Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize, is playing for one weekend only at the Lyric Theatre in Stuart.
The musical has been called "brave and breathtaking" by the New York Times. It uses a contemporary rock score to help keep the audience emotionally entranced with the performances.
Next to Normal tells the story of a mother, Diane Goodman, who struggles with bipolar disorder, and the affect that has on her family.
Throughout the performance, the audience will watch as the Goodman family struggles with issues such as grieving a loss, the ethics of modern psychiatry and just everyday suburban life.
The musical uses the powerful lyrics by Brian Yorkey and a thrilling score by Tom Kitt to emphasizes and illustrate how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane while keeping their family's world intact.
These performances will contain adult language and adult content.
