MARTIN COUNTY -- On April 9, the Big Brothers Big Sisters's event Taste of Martin County will be held at Memorial Park in Stuart.

This is the 17th year the event has taken place, and the money raised from the event will go to benefit the programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach and Martin County.

The event showcases local restaurants, caterers and a variety of food, wine and beer vendors. Participants will be offered a "taste" of what everyone has to offer. There will be more than 30 dining establishments represented, including

Then, the participants will be asked to vote on their favorites in six categories: best soup, best salad, best appetizer, best entrée, best dessert and best presentation.

The signature sponsor of the event is Fox, Wackeen, Dungey, Beard, Bush, Goldman, Kilbride & McCluckey. The firm has supported the annual event for the past four years.

"Mentoring is very near and dear to the hearts of attorneys, because it is so important during our career development," said George Bush, one of the partners. "Who wouldn't support an organization with such a proven impact on the community?"

There will also be a silent auction held during the event.

Last year, the awards winners were Palm City Grill for Best Soup, Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza for Best Salad, The Evergreen Club for Best Entrée, Edible Spirits for Best Dessert, The Evergreen Club for Best Presentation and J.J. Taylor for Best Beer.

If you want to help out before April 9, there will be a golf tournament held on April 7 by the Treasure Coast Estate Buyers at the Martin Downs Golf Club. All golfers will receive two free tickets to the Taste event with their registration fee.

Tickets to the Taste of Martin County are $50 per person, or $60 at the event. For more information, call (772) 678-7487 or go online to www.thetasteofmartincounty.com.
