VIERA -- Take "Fido" out to the ball game this April!

The always-popular Bark in the Park event will take place Sunday, April 14, at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, with gates opening at 4 p.m. The Central Brevard Humane Society will host the event in conjunction with the Brevard County Manatees.

"We have been hosting this event with Space Coast Stadium since August 2009," said Eileen Cole, media relations manager for the Central Brevard Humane Society.

While the event is typically held each year in August, the two organizations decided to shake things up a little.

"This year is the first time we will be doing this event twice with the stadium -- once on April 14 and once on July 7," Mrs. Cole added.

Four-legged friends, along with their owners, are invited to watch the Brevard County Manatees take on the Clearwater Threshers on April 14. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 5:05 p.m.

The second event on July 7 will feature the Manatees versus the Tampa Yankees.

"It is a great way for pet owners to bring their dogs to Space Coast Stadium and enjoy an affordable baseball game, while playing with their dog," said Kevin Soto, director of promotions and community relations for the Brevard County Manatees.

Goodie bags will be distributed to the first 100 people.

Attendees can comfortably enjoy the game from a blanket or lawn chair from the grass berm around the outfield fence. Make sure "Fido" is ready to catch some homerun balls!

"The Manatees will provide water for the dogs," Mr. Soto said. "We also play sound clips during the event to get the dogs barking."

During the seventh-inning stretch, pets and their owners can visit a variety of vendors and participate in raffles.

The Central Brevard Humane Society will be present at the event with adoptable shelter dogs, as well as merchandise and educational information about responsible pet ownership.

"Dog owners should come out to support the Central Brevard Humane Society," Mr. Soto added. "The Manatees will donate each dog ticket that is purchased; plus, people should come out to support their local Minor League Baseball team."

Bark in the Park is Sunday, April 14, at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the game is scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m.
