MELBOURNE -- A young artist will soon be teaching the art of dance to others across the region.
Logan Morris, a senior dancer at Dance Mania All-Stars in Melbourne, was recently named a staff member for the Universal Dance Association. In order to be a staff member for the UDA, Ms. Morris had to go through a lengthy application process.
"I filled out an application online, went to a live audition, was interviewed and taught a two-eight count dance to the instructors," Ms. Morris said.
While at the audition, Ms. Morris, age 18, said she also had to perform a dance that she learned with the 15 other staff member hopefuls.
"The audition process was at a moderate level," Ms. Morris added. "It was a great experience for a first audition.
A 10-year veteran dancer and coach of Dance Mania All-Stars, Ms. Morris, a Grant resident, was thrilled when she was named a staff member for the UDA.
"I was ecstatic," Ms. Morris said. "It was a great phone call to receive."
As a staff member, Ms. Morris will teach summer camps, helping fellow dancers learn new choreography and skills, and work at dance competitions throughout the Southeast.
Ms. Morris's coach, Dana Parsons, said she is over-the-moon-excited for her student.
"I cannot think of a more deserving candidate," said Coach Parsons, owner and head instructor of Dance Mania All-Stars.
Throughout her time at Dance Mania, Ms. Morris has been a team leader, a role model as a coach and the founder and coach of Dance Abilities -- a team made up of dancers with a range of special needs.
"I am looking forward to the experience that [being a UDA staff member] will give me," Ms. Morris said. "It will open new doors and other opportunities in the future."
