The fifth annual New Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest April 5-7 at the Municipal Airport will be bigger, better, more exciting and feature more to do and enjoy than ever before.
There are many activities planned throughout the weekend.
Day and night airshows: Once again, there will be air shows Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Aerobatics, parachutes, a pyrotechnic glider, the return of the 300 mph Jet School Bus and the world premiere of "Dracula" will highlight this year's shows.
Hot-air Balloons: Balloons are what got this whole thing started in 2009. In 2013, there will be dozens of balloons, with dazzling balloon glows Friday and Saturday evenings and balloon flights at dawn Saturday and Sunday.
The Balloon Experience: All weekend long, all-new Balloon Experience venue will be adjacent to Balloon Island. This is where young and old alike will learn everything they ever wanted to know about ballooning. Watch, touch, feel, hear and talk to a balloonist.
Sounds of Sky Fest: Country, Bluegrass, Ska and Rock 'n' Roll will be played at the main stage.
Inspiration Village: A unique interactive venue that will feature everything from radio-controlled aircraft and a NASA exhibit to a real helicopter, free haircuts and lots of robots.
4-H Animal Encounter: It will have horses, pigs, cows and chickens, but also fish, turtles, birds of prey, horse shows, hayrides and a cow-milking experience.
Display Aircraft: The MetLife Snoopy 1 blimp will be on display all weekend. There also will be a restored DC-3, a B-25, a B-17, two P-51 Mustangs and many more warbirds and modern training aircraft -- plus a plane that helps deliver FedEx packages.
Vendors: Whether you crave almost any kind of food, feel like shopping for fabulous arts and crafts, or want to see the latest from local businessmen, vendor row has everything.
Carnival: It doesn't matter what age you are, the carnival has something for you. It's great during the day, and even better at night. Step up, climb on, sit down and enjoy the ride.
Admission is $5 for adults. Children younger than 12 and veterans with ID get in free. Parking is free.
