Pet shot clinic planned

There will be a lower cost pet shot clinic sponsored by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal rescue from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Family Dollar, 109 Boston Ave. in Edgewater.

This is a cash-only clinic. No appointment is necessary.

Fashion show slated

Belong, the New Smyrna Beach Women's Community Outreach Group, will host a spring fashion show and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at 63 N. Airport Road, New Smyrna Beach.

Cost is $14. Reservations are required and should be made by Thursday, April 4.

Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for area food pantries.

Volunteers sought

Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about the Indian River Lagoon, and the center is always looking for volunteers.

Opportunities include welcome desk, exhibit docents, special events ambassadors and exhibit/site maintenance. Other positions also may be available.

The next volunteer orientation is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11.

Legion post supporting cancer relief

The "Little V" (VFW post 4250) is hosting a Cancer Relief fundraising event, featuring a "head shaving contest," to raise money for Cancer research.

The event will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the post, 2350 Sunset Drive, New Smyrna Beach.

It's Post 4250 vs. Ladies Auxiliary Post 4250 in a "head shaving contest." A "lady" from each side (with a full head of hair), will compete for the most donations.

The "loser" will have her head completely shaved by the winner of the donor drawing.

Donations are $5 and include a pulled pork dinner with all the fixins, and a chance to be the one to shave the head of the loser.

Head shaving will be at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is from 2-4 p.m.

There will be live entertainment with the Road Hog Road Show.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction.
