INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Adult Education is currently accepting applications for the January 2014 LPN program. Five information sessions will be held for potential applicants. The sessions will be held at 5 p.m. on May 16, June 20, July 25 and Aug. 8 at the Gifford Medical Academy.

The academy is located at 4680 28th Court in Vero Beach. The program will start in January 2014 and takes one year to complete. Students will attend during the day, Monday through Friday, for approximately 35 hours per week.

Adult Education is offering a daytime Certified Nursing Assistant course. This is a 215-hour course and students who successfully complete this program are prepared to take the Florida State Certification test. Class will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Class will begin on April 3 and run through May 30 and is held at the Gifford Medical Academy site. Cost of the course is $894.

Adult Education will be offering a 75-hour continuing education Phlebotomy course for individuals who already working in the medical field in a hands on position such as Home Health Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant. The course will be held April 22 through June 6 and will meet Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost of the course is $674.

Those interested in taking their MS Word skills to the next level, Adult Education can help. We will offer a beginning Word class on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. The class will run April 8 through May 1 and the cost for this 16-hour class is $68.

Those interested in learning Windows 7, can attend a 16-hour class running from April 2 through 25. Students will attend class on Tuesdays and Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. The cost for this class is $68.

Those bothered by arthritis or other aches and pains, the water exercise class may be just for you. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. beginning April 4 and running through May 30; class will be held in Wabasso and the cost is $70.

A QuickBooks class will be offered and held on Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. Class will begin on April 5 and run through June 14. Students will learn the ins and outs of this valuable program. Cost is $211 and the book is included.

A floral-design class is being offered in which students will work with both silk and fresh flowers. Students will attend class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from April 3 through March 5. Cost is $73 and students are responsible for purchasing their floral materials.

Beginner Spanish I and II courses will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The classes will begin on April 2 and run through May 21. Beginner Spanish I will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. and Spanish II will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost of each class is $124 including book.
