Tenebrae: service of darkness
The service of Tenebrae has a rich tradition in the church, dating back to the 8th century.
Tenebrae is a word derived from Latin meaning "darkness."
Through word, music and drama, this service dramatizes the suffering, death and burial of Jesus Christ.
This service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the Advent Lutheran Church, 7550 N. Wickham Road, Suntree.
As the service moves from light into darkness, the diminishing light symbolizes the fading devotion of the apostles as well as the gradual dying of the Lord.
At the end of the service, the sanctuary will be in darkness. Everyone will leave in silence, contemplating Christ's suffering and death, in preparation for the joy we will celebrate with Christ's resurrection on Easter Day.
This service is written by Hal H. Hopson, produced by Lois Koepke, musical director and organist Betty Jo Couch, A.C.T. (Advent Christian-Centered Thespians) and the Advent Lutheran Church Choir.

Youth from infants through first grade will enjoy doughnuts and juice, hunt for eggs and watch the Easter Bunny arrive on the fire truck at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at Pelican Beach Park, 1525 Highway A1A, Satellite Beach.
