FORT PIERCE -- Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute commemorated 60 years of the Link Foundation and 40 years of the HBOI summer internship program on March 6 with a special lecture titled "An Opportunity to Develop Your Genius: A 60/40 Homecoming."
The event, part of the HBOI Ocean Science Lecture Series, was presented by Andy Clark, Ph.D., former HBOI summer intern and board member of the Link Foundation, and Dennis Hanisak, Ph.D., director of education programs. Each presentation was followed by a reception which included some of the first HBOI summer interns.
The Link Foundation was established in 1953 by Edwin A. (1904-81) and Marion C. (1907-95) Link. The Foundation supports the Links' ideals and funds academic programs in simulation and training, energy resources development and conservation, and ocean engineering and instrumentation.
The HBOI summer intern program was launched in 1974 with support from the Link Foundation. The program has hosted more than 500 college and university students from around the world in this 10-week summer research experience.
